Human-to-human transmissible Andes strain detected in two Hantavirus cases in South Africa

South Africa has detected the human-to-human transmissible Andes strain in two Hantavirus cases in the country who disembarked from a cruise ship linked to an outbreak of the disease, according to the health minister's presentation to parliament on Wednesday.

The ministry also ‌said that contact tracing was underway, with 62 contacts identified including flight crew and healthcare workers. The contacts will be monitored until an incubation period has passed and none have been diagnosed with the Hantavirus so far.
