At the start of the Lunar New Year, many coastal localities in central Viet Nam hold Whale Worship Festivals.

Traditional rituals include welcoming the Whale God, making offerings, and praying for peace and prosperity. The festival dates back to the Nguyen dynasty and is held annually from the 9th to the 11th day of the first lunar month. The festivals reflect the fishing fleet's daily life at sea, from fishing and community activities to their resilience in storms and natural disasters.
