Philippine VP Sara Duterte announces 2028 Presidential run

Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte announced on Wednesday her candidacy for president in the 2028 elections. While the presidential vote is two years away, contenders in the Philippines elections are known to prepare for years in advance.

At a Wednesday press briefing, she said that "she will offer her life, strength, and future in the service of the nation." Sara Duterte and former president Rodrigo Duterte ran under the same ticket in the 2022 election, which they won by a landslide. But the alliance soon unraveled as they pursued separate political interests.
