The Japanese government has provided the Philippines with five coastal surveillance radar systems through a cooperation framework called Official Security Assistance (OSA).

A handover ceremony was held in Manila on Wednesday following the arrival of the equipment last month.  Japan’s OSA program is to provide armed forces of like-minded countries with defense equipment and other items. The two countries agreed on the supply of the radar systems in 2023.

Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Endo Kazuya said the OSA framework reflects Japan’s resolute commitment to working closely with like-minded partners to maintain peace and security across the Indo-Pacific. Philippine Secretary of National Defense Gilberto Teodoro also thanked the Japanese government for its concrete contributions in widening and deepening bilateral and multilateral ties.
