Biological Security : 3rd Myanmar-Russia Interagency Consultations

In order to exchange research determination on the biosecurity threats, that occur across worldwide including Asia-Pacific region, the 3rd Myanmar-Russia Interagency Consultations on Biological Security took place at the Ministry of Science and Technology in Nay Pyi Taw on January 29th.

Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Dr. Aung Zeya in his capacity as Chairman of the Biological Weapon Convention/ BWC-National Authority attended the meeting. Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Minister said Myanmar became 171st BWC member country in 1972, and has been following the BWC act after its ratification on 1st December 2014.

Myanmar currently submitted 8th Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) to the Implementation Support Unit. Emphasizing the biosecurity for sustainable growth of human resources, the Deputy Minister expressed his belief on long term strategic cooperation between the two countries in combating infectious disease and biohazard.

Then, the attendees discussed current and future cooperation on science and technology, collaboaration on control of biosecurity and conducting international forums for the benefits of both countries and its people. The meeting brought the positive outcomes on bilateral cooperation in an effort for biosecurity of the country to keep abreast with international level.
