Inspection for Upgrading to University: MoE UM inspected EDC (Taungggyi) to upgrade university

Union Minister for Education Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein, accompanied by officials, visited the former Computer University (Taunggyi) on January 26 to inspect and review the preparations for upgrading and opening the Education Degree College to university level.

First, the Pro-Rector of Computer University (Taunggyi), Dr. Khin San Dar Aung, explained the university's land area, student capacity in school buildings, and provided details about the Computer University.

Following that, the Union Minister, the State Chief Minister U Aung Aung, and Deputy Minister Dr. Zaw Myint discussed the conditions of the main building of Computer University (Taunggyi) requiring renovation and the classrooms to be repaired.

Subsequently, they toured and inspected the site for the university's main building, the location for constructing a football field and running tracks, and the land allocated for expanding student dormitories. Then, they visited the Taunggyi University Research Centre, observing students conducting practical research in the Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics research laboratories. They also toured the university's recreational rest-house and the indoor sports hall.

Afterwards, they arrived at the Taunggyi Education Degree College, where they met with the principal, teachers, and trainees. They stated that the visit was to assess the ground conditions for upgrading the Taunggyi Education Degree College to a university, as directed by the Head of State. They emphasized that the current Taunggyi Education Degree College will be upgraded to a university. For such an upgrade, five Education Degree Colleges must be prepared for elevation to university level. Preparations must include both physical infrastructure development and teaching-related matters, among other things. Following this, they visited Taunggyi Township No. (1) Basic Education High School and Aye Thar Yar Town No. (1) Basic Education and Technical, Agriculture, Livestock High School in Taunggyi Township, meeting with students and delivering encouraging speeches. Similarly, the Union Minister for Education, accompanied by officials, visited Kalaw No. (1) High School in Kalaw, Shan State (South), on the afternoon of January 25, touring and inspecting the classrooms. Afterwards, they warmly greeted and met with the school principal and teachers, and also inspected the construction of a football spectator stand and toured the school compound, it’s reported.
