Phase-3 of the Multi-Party Democracy General Election was successfully held on January 25 in 61 townships nationwide, including 17 townships in Yangon Region.
A total of 1,300 polling stations were opened in the region, and voters turned out peacefully and enthusiastically to cast their ballots. Local and international media freely covered the election, while foreign diplomats and local and international election observers monitored the voting process.
The election used the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM) for the first time. Voters said the system was easier and more convenient than the previous paper-based voting method. Polling station officials, Red Cross members, and social organizations assisted voters throughout the day.
After polling stations closed in the evening, votes were systematically counted and recorded. The 2025 general election is being held in phases across Yangon Region, covering 45 townships, with nearly 4.94 million eligible voters and 3,784 polling stations. A total of 20 political parties and 46 independent candidates are contesting the election.
MITV is a broadcast TV brand intended for international and local English speaking consumers, launched on 31st March 2010 based in Yangon.
