Pre-Election Briefing : Welcoming the international election observers

A welcoming and briefing session was held for international election observers visiting for the upcoming General Election Phase 3 on January 25.

The event took place at Park Royal Hotel, Yangon on Saturday, attended by U Than Soe, Chairman of the Union Election Commission (UEC), Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, UEC members, departmental officials, and representatives from Belarus, Cambodia, Nepal, Indonesia, Viet Nam, Nicaragua, India, and International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP).

The UEC Chairman explained election procedures, including voter registration, campaigning rules, and use of Myanmar Electronic Voting Machines (MEVM). This was followed by practical demonstrations of MEVM usage. In the afternoon, the UEC Chairman visited polling stations in Dagon, Tamwe, and Latha Townships to monitor preparations.

It is learnt that there are 24.22 million eligible voters, 57 political parties contesting nationwide, and three phases of election have been held in 263 out of 330 townships, with by-elections to be conducted in the remaining areas.
