Regional Cooperation : 6thASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting

Viet Nam hosted the 6thASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting (6th ADGMIN) and related meetings with Dialogue Partners from January 15 to 16. Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Transport and Communication U Mya Tun Oo attended the meeting, which aims for successful implementation of digital development plans in ASEAN region.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the opening ceremony of the meeting and gave an inaugural speech. Under the theme “Adaptive ASEAN– From Connectivity to Connected Intelligence”, the meeting discussed digital development in ASEAN region, promoting the use of AI, ensuring safety, ethical concept and inclusiveness and cooperation for tackling challenges.

Union Minister U Mya Tun Oo discussed in support of the meeting's theme, through the establishment of trusted cross-border data flow and digital government system. He also stressed the need to consider the gap among the member states in implementing the digital development, and pledged to work in cooperation with member states for successful implementation of ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2030.

The meeting also reviewed the projects that had been implemented during 2025 and sought approval for the new projects and budgets for 2026. The discussion also focused on combating online scam, promoting cyber security, systematic AI development and ways to cooperate for implementing these activities.

The meeting also adopted the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2030, along with the release of Hanoi Digital Declaration. The Union Minister also attended a gala dinner hosted by the Vietnamese Government and the ASEAN Digital Awards 2026 ceremony on January 15. Myanmar team from Mandalay (Tem Europa) won Third Prize in the Digital Startup category with the project titled “Green Globe: Waste Management for a Better World!”.

Earlier, on January 14, the Union Minister attended the 2026 China–ASEAN Digital Ecosystem Cooperation Networking Event at the invitation of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology and delivered a keynote speech.

He highlighted that digital systems are becoming more reliable and people-centered, and stressed the need for intelligence, adaptability, innovation, and stronger cooperation as digital transformation deepens.
