A coordination meeting on monitoring and reporting the implementation of the Sendai Framework was held at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement on Friday.
Union Minister Dr. Soe Win made an opening speech, saying that Myanmar has been working with regional and international organizations on disaster risk management and has been submitting Sendai Framework reports online since 2018.
The Sendai Framework focuses on reducing deaths, injuries, affected people, economic losses, and damage to infrastructure, as well as strengthening early warning systems and partnerships, based on 7 global targets and 38 indicators.
He explained that the Sendai Framework indicators are linked with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan (2018–2030). Myanmar has submitted data annually and recently presented its progress at a workshop in New Delhi, India. Among BIMSTEC member countries, Myanmar was recognized for being the only country to submit reports up to 2024.
The Union Minister called on all relevant departments to continue providing complete and accurate data for online reporting until 2030. Officials from the Disaster Management Department then explained the reporting process, and representatives from departments and organizations discussed ways to improve data accuracy and coordination.
