The Union Election Commission issued a public announcement regarding the People’s Pioneer Party on 14th January.
The announcement stated that political parties are obliged to comply with the provisions stipulated in Section 407(c) and Section 408 of the Constitution, as well as Section 6(c) of the Political Parties Registration Law, which prohibit political parties from directly or indirectly receiving or using money, materials, or other forms of assistance from the government of any foreign country, any religious organization, any other organization, or any individual, or from submitting to their influence.
Failure to comply with these provisions shall result in the cancellation of registration as a political party. The Union Election Commission had already informed all political parties of this obligation by the official letter on 11 August 2022. In addition, political parties were further notified by the Union Election Commission, through the official letter on 23 August 2022, that if they intend to meet with any foreign organizations or individuals, they must first submit a request to the Union Election Commission and may only proceed with such meetings after obtaining approval, which would be granted following appropriate scrutiny.
As it was learned that the People’s Pioneer Party had been holding secret meetings with embassies and/or organizations, the Union Election Commission issued a warning letter addressed to the Chairperson of the People’s Pioneer Party, by the official letter on 22 December 2025, stating that meetings may only be conducted after obtaining prior approval from the Commission, and that any meetings held without such approval would be dealt with in accordance with Section 12 of the Political Parties Registration Law.
Reports were subsequently received that the Chairperson of the People’s Pioneer Party, Dr. Thet Thet Khine, and Central Executive Committee member Daw Htet Htet Hlaing, without submitting a request for approval to the Union Election Commission, secretly and unlawfully met with certain individuals from a foreign embassy, while wearing masks, from approximately 2:00 to 3:00 PM on 18 December 2025 at a restaurant located on Natmauk Road, Bahan Township, Yangon Region. Investigations into this matter confirmed that the report was accurate, and both of them admitted to the facts as stated.
Therefore, it is hereby announced that legal action will be taken in accordance with the law against the Chairperson of the People’s Pioneer Party, Dr. Thet Thet Khine, and Central Executive Committee member Daw Htet Htet Hlaing.
