China–Myanmar Investment Cooperation : Meeting with Chinese Business Associations in Myanmar

Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr. Wah Wah Maung on Saturday met with representatives from Chinese business associations registered in Myanmar to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral investment cooperation.

The Union Minister noted that China and Myanmar share not only friendly relations but also a strong strategic partnership that continues to promote mutual economic development. She encouraged Chinese businesses to expand their existing investments in Myanmar, pointing out that China remains the second-largest foreign investor in the country.

Currently, 25 Chinese–Myanmar business associations, including the Myanmar–China Trade and Investment Promotion Association (MCTIP), have been established to facilitate collaboration and communication between  investors and authorities.

[Soundbite] The Union Minister also revealed that Myanmar is working to enable investments using China’s currency, the Renminbi (Yuan), with relevant procedures being implemented promptly. [Soundbite] She further emphasized that Myanmar and China, as members of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), have also signed a Myanmar–China Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement to safeguard bilateral investments and ensure smooth business operations.

The Union Minister underscored the importance of ensuring that investment projects deliver benefits across the supply chain, fostering a mutually beneficial and sustainable economic community involving both governments, the private sector, and the people of the two countries.

She also highlighted ongoing efforts to implement the China–Myanmar Economic Corridor (CMEC) to boost border trade and connectivity, and invited Chinese entrepreneurs from various provinces to explore new investment opportunities in Myanmar.
