




Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung visited coffee plantations at ministry compounds in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday to inspect Robusta lowland coffee being grown for demonstration and education purposes.
The Union Minister inspected one-acre Robusta coffee plants that began bearing fruit at one year and nine months old. He also viewed fruit pruning techniques to improve yield. The Union Minister also visited the 2.5 acres and 0.5 acres coffee plantation.
Officials explained that shady trees from previous rainy seasons, such as mango, macadamia, rubber, and teak, were used for planting the coffee. The Union Minister instructed to promote awareness and demonstrate proper techniques for successful coffee cultivation in lowland areas, including the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory.
He also called for necessary technical support to be provided according to procedures. Robusta lowland coffee can be grown at altitudes below 2,500 feet using shady. It is also suitable for coastal areas between betel nut trees.
