The 34th annual meeting of the Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association was held at MICC‑1 in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.

The event was attended by Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, wife of the Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission in her capacity as the honorary patron of the association. During the ceremony, Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win said over 60% of Myanmar’s population are mothers and children, adding that reducing maternal and child mortality is a key health indicator and would contribute to raising life expectancy.

She urged prioritizing maternal and child health policies nationwide. He added that the association and the ministry have opened maternal and child clinics across regions, providing prenatal care, safe delivery, postnatal care, nutritional units, and medicines for expectant mothers from four months onward.

This was followed by screening of a video clip on the activities of the Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, and presenting awards to the associations from various regions and states for achievements in health, education, social, and economic works.

The Honorary Patron and party later viewed the documentary photo booths on the activities of the association. They also distributed food to pregnant mothers and vaccines to children under five, and took a tour to the stalls of local products and handicrafts from region and state associations. The meeting included reports on 2024 activities, financial statements, and planning for future work. Participants discussed proposals and decisions to guide the next steps.
