The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, ahead of the tourist season, is working to ensure that hotels and tourism businesses are ready, and to repair and renovate hotels and tourism businesses damaged by the severe Mandalay earthquake so that they can reopen and operate quickly.

Union Minister Jeng Phang Naw Taung for the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism visited Mandalay to inspect the repair progress, completion status, and operational conditions of the earthquake-affected hotels in the morning on September 29.

During the inspection, officials from the hotels explained the repair and renovation status of the earthquake-affected buildings, rooms, and halls, the completion status, the acceptance of guests and operational conditions in the renovated rooms, as well as the plans and arrangements being made to attract more guests to stay at the hotels and the support needed.

Regarding the clarifications presented, the Union Minister stated that since there are many prominent tourist destinations and attractions within Mandalay Region, preparations should be made in advance for the hotel businesses ahead of the tourism season. Hotels should operate targeting not only the international tourist market but also the domestic tourist market.

Everyone is urged to cooperate and work together for the development and advancement of Myanmar’s hotel and tourism industries.

Additionally, the officials were instructed to provide comprehensive tourism information to ensure that tourists can visit and travel smoothly and comfortably to tourist attractions in Mandalay city. They were also tasked with promoting sustainable and long-term stability of tourist sites through government-private sector collaboration and effective implementation.
