Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi, accompanied by Ayeyarwady Region Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win, Region ministers, and officials, conducted a field inspection of the survival status of mangrove plantations in Bogale Township, Ayeyarwady Region.

On the morning of September 28, the Union Minister and the Chief Minister inspected the survival status of the 100-acre Village Firewood Plantation (4/2018) in Plot No. 47 of Kadonkani Reserved Forest. They instructed officials to conserve and maintain the planted trees for long-term sustainability.

Subsequently, the Union Minister and his delegation arrived at the Byone Hmwe Island Nursery in Plot No. 49 of the Kadonkani Reserved Forest.

After officials presented the work status at the briefing hall, the Union Minister emphasized that while efforts are underway to restore Myanmar's forest cover and achieve 50% forest coverage, the conservation of natural mangroves and the further expansion of mangrove plantations play a crucial role.

He instructed that extensive awareness activities be carried out so that local communities will conserve and protect the mangroves in their area for the long term.

Furthermore, the Region Chief Minister stated that they would collaborate with the ministry in the efforts to conserve mangroves and expand mangrove plantations.

In the afternoon, the Union Minister and officials toured the Byone Hmwe Island Nursery to inspect the nursery cultivation status of mangrove saplings and the conservation status of the natural mangroves on Byone Hmwe Island, issuing necessary instructions.

The Union Minister and officials then proceeded to inspect the survival and maintenance status of the 850-acre Mangrove Plantation (1/2017) in Plot No. 64, the survival status of the 500-acre Mangrove Plantation (1/2009) in Plot No. 63, the completion status of the 200-acre Mangrove Plantation (3/2025) in Plot No. 62. Based on the officials' reports, they issued necessary instructions.

It is noted that Myanmar has a total mangrove forest coverage of 1.26 million acres, with an increase of approximately 120,000 acres observed between 2020 and 2025.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation annually establishes 2,300 acres of mangrove plantations with 2.78 million seedlings. Starting from the 2026 monsoon season, it plans to expand this to 3,300 acres with about 4 million seedlings.
