Coordination Meeting: MCRD UM attended and delivered the opening speech

A coordination meeting of the Leading Committee for the Procurement and Distribution of Urea Fertilizer was held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development in Nay Pyi Taw.

The Chairman of the Leading Committee, Union Minister U Hla Moe, attended and delivered the opening address.

In his opening address, the Chairman of the Leading Committee, Union Minister U Hla Moe, stated that the meeting was convened to discuss the completion status of the direct distribution to farmers under the crop-based payment system, matters requiring further action, the need to reset reference prices, and ensuring uninterrupted import of inputs.

He instructed the committee member departments to conduct quality assurance checks and to inspect whether fertilizer shops are selling based on the Yangon-settled reference price plus regional transportation costs and retail margins, and to check for any hoarding of inputs for market speculation. He urged the relevant departments to cooperate in ensuring the timely availability of fertilizers, affordability of prices, and quality assurance, in line with the objectives of the Leading Committee.

Following this, the Secretary of the Leading Committee, Permanent Secretary U Khant Zaw, explained the distribution and sales status reaching farmers' hands for the month of August. A representative from the Myanmar Fertilizer, Seed and Agrochemical Entrepreneurs Association also explained the procurement, import, and distribution of inputs.

Subsequently, representatives from the Central Bank of Myanmar, Myanma Economic Bank, the Myanmar Rice Federation, and committee member departments participated in the discussions and presented their views. The Union Minister provided supplementary instructions on the presentations and delivered concluding remarks, it’s reported.
