Committee Meeting : Prevention and Protection of Underage Children

The Committee Meeting (2/2025) on the Prevention and Protection of Underage Children from Recruitment was held on Thursday afternoon at the Ministry of Defence.

The meeting was attended by the Committee Chairman, General Maung Maung Aye, Union Minister for Defence, who delivered an opening address. In this meeting, the Committee Chairman and Union Minister stated that continuous efforts are being made to prevent the enlistment of individuals under the age of 18 in the Tatmadaw.

The Tatmadaw is consistently carrying out its duties with the welfare of children. He mentioned that 1,152 permanent servicemen who were underage at the time of their erroneous recruitment were discharged from the Tatmadaw and handed back to their parents or guardians.

He also added that action has been taken against those who had wrongfully recruited or mistakenly called up the underage individuals. Following this, the committee members in attendance offered suggestions and discussed the status of implementation of the activities related to the prevention and protection of underage children from recruitment in their respective sectors, as well as the plans for continued implementation. And, the Committee Chairman, Union Minister for Defence, provided supplementary discussions on necessary matters.
