





The Leading Committee for the Protection of Farmers' Rights and Promotion of Their Interests held its coordination meeting (1/2025) on the afternoon of September 23 at the assembly hall of the Union Minister's Office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation in Nay Pyi Taw.
The meeting was attended by the Leader of the Leading Committee, Union Minister for the Ministry (3) of the President’s Office U Maung Maung Tint, Committee Members Union Ministers, Deputy Ministers, the Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar, Association Chairmen, experts, and invited guests.
Region and State Chief Ministers joined the meeting virtually via online system. At the meeting, the Leader of the Leading Committee, Union Minister U Maung Maung Tint, delivered the opening remarks. He stated that the meeting aimed to coordinate the implementation of provisions in the Law for the Protection of Farmers' Rights and Promotion of Their Interests and its by-laws, and to discuss sectoral development tasks.
He urged all members to collectively discuss how the Leading Committee, in line with its duties under Chapter 3, Section 5 of the Law, can ensure farmers can freely cultivate and produce crops, provide timely support for necessary capital and technology for crop production, enable the use of quality-assured pesticides, fertilizers, and seeds, ensure timely access to information on crop prices and markets for farmers, secure fair prices for agricultural products, ensure the continuous acquisition of import quotas from trading partner countries.
He urged the collaborative discussions on these necessary coordination tasks. Subsequently, the Secretary of the Leading Committee, Union Minister U Min Naung, presented on the duties of the Leading Committee, implementation status of the resolutions from the 1/2023 Leading Committee Meeting, plans for expanding sunflower cultivation and improving yields of cotton, rubber, and oil palm, to be implemented under the supervision of Region and State Governments, including plans for expanding cocoa and coffee cultivation and measures planned for the development of the livestock sector.
Following this, Leading Committee members Union Ministers, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman, Regions and States Chief Ministers, Joint-Secretaries Deputy Ministers, Association Chairmen, and experts discussed matters related to their respective sectors.
During the meeting (1/2025) of the Leading Committee, discussions were held on achieving crop production targets, increasing and improving the quality of export crop shipments and enhancing cultivation and production according to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) standards, it’s learnt.
