Chairman of Electricity and Energy Development Commission and Union Minister for the Ministry (1) of the Office of the President, U Tin Aung San, inspected the Offshore Oil Base (Thaketa) under Myanmar Oil and Natural Gas Enterprise in Thaketa Township, Yangon Region, on the morning of September 23.

First, Commission Chairman U Tin Aung San, attended a briefing at the meeting hall of the Offshore Oil Base (Thaketa) of Myanmar Oil and Natural Gas Enterprise in Thaketa Township, where the General Manager and officials of the Offshore Oil Base from the Ministry of Energy presented updates on current operations of onshore and offshore oil fields, plans for ongoing activities, seismic data obtained for demarcating new oil wells, the status of geological survey assessments, and the operational conditions of the Offshore Oil Base.

Regarding the presentations, the Commission Chairman stated that the energy sector is crucial for the country's development and significantly impacts the improvement of the daily living standards of the people. He mentioned that the four major natural gas projects such as Yadana, Yetagun, Zawtika, and Shwe offshore projects produce natural gas that is exported to neighboring countries, thereby supporting the nation's economic development.

Additionally, natural gas is distributed domestically for electricity generation, CNG vehicles, and the factories, making these projects extremely important for the country. However, since these major projects have been operating for a long time, natural gas production has gradually declined.

Therefore, efforts must be made to explore and develop new projects. Consequently, international energy companies are invited and encouraged to invest in onshore and offshore oil and natural gas exploration and production areas etc.

Furthermore, commemorative fruit basket was presented to the staff at the offshore oil base. Subsequently, the Commission Chairman inspected the storage conditions of materials in the warehouses within the offshore oil base camp (Thaketa), the status of step-by-step testing being conducted according to the set standards in the subsurface core laboratory, the condition of ships being overhauled at the docked vessels, and the progress of the Thaketa port approach bridge construction, have followed up, clarified, and reported. It is learned that the Commission Chairman provided necessary guidance.
