
Two men have been arrested in Hlaingthaya (East) Township of Yangon Region for allegedly posting campaign stickers with messages intended to disrupt the upcoming multi-party democratic general elections, according to the Myanmar Police Force.
The incident occurred on the morning of September 17 at around 6:15 AM, when a combined security team discovered stickers bearing anti-election messages on a public directional signpost located at the intersection of Kyan Sit Tha Road and U Pho Hlaing Road in Shwe Lin Ban Village.
A case was opened under Section 23(a) of the Law on the Protection of Multiparty Democratic General Elections from Obstruction, Disruption, and Destruction. Following continued efforts, police arrested two suspects at their residence in Ward 6, Hlaing Tharyar (East) Township, on September 18.
According to statements given by the suspects, they had placed similar anti-election campaign stickers in 10 public locations across Hlaingthaya (East) and (West) Townships on September 13, with the intent of undermining the multi-party general elections. Legal proceedings against the individuals are ongoing, and further action will be taken in accordance with the law to ensure accountability.
