AC Economic Leaders Forum: PM U Nyo Saw delivered an opening speech

Under the theme "Connecting ASEAN with AI for a Shared Future through Digital Transformation," the opening ceremony of the China-ASEAN Economic Leaders Forum was held in the afternoon on September 17, at the Grand Metropark Hotel in Nanning.

The Prime Minister U Nyo Saw attended and delivered a speech. The ceremony was attended by Union Ministers Dr. Charlie Than, U Chit Swe, Dr. Thet Khaing Win; Ambassador of Myanmar to the People’s Republic of China U Tin Maung Swe, responsible officials, Mr. Sun Dawu, Chairman of the People’s Political Consultative Conference of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, ASEAN Secretary-General Mr. Kao Kim Hourn; the Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT); the Secretary-General of the ASEAN-China Centre; presidents of chambers of commerce from China and ASEAN countries; business entrepreneurs; and officials. First, the Secretary of the Forum Organizing Committee introduced and demonstrated the use of AI technology glasses.

Then, in his opening address at the forum, the Prime Minister U Nyo Saw stated that this forum serves as a platform for business associations leading the economic sectors in China and ASEAN member states to exchange views and discuss economic matters.

He noted that the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) has now been upgraded to ACFTA 3.0, enabling deeper cooperation in new areas such as the digital economy, green economy, supply chain connectivity, competition, consumer protection, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Therefore, China and ASEAN countries can share and benefit from development opportunities by collaborating in these new fields.

He emphasized that as AI technology is widely used across various sectors, it is necessary to consider its misuse and cybersecurity issues, ensuring balanced and appropriate application in the right areas. He expressed his belief that through today’s China-ASEAN Economic Leaders Forum, trade and economic cooperation between China and ASEAN member states can be further enhanced.

After that, the Chairman of the People’s Political Consultative Conference of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Vice Chairman of CCPIT, the ASEAN Secretary-General, and the Secretary-General of the ASEAN-China Centre delivered speeches, and the opening ceremony was concluded.
