








Yankin Education Degree College in Yangon hosted the “School Library Development and Reading Habit Promotion Campaign” on Friday. It was organized by the Information and Public Relations Department (IPRD), Department of Basic Education, and the college under the supervision of Yangon Region Government.
Region Government Ministers attended the event and were welcomed with PomPom dance performances by the students of Basic Education schools. The event began with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, followed by a commemorative group photo session.
The Region Ministers then toured the IPRD’s book exhibition, photo booths, departmental awareness galleries, intellectual competitions, literary discussions, fun games and book sales. The event featured the musical performances by students from the Practicing Middle School and No. 1 Basic Education High School.
In his speech, Yangon Mayor U Bo Htay highlighted the vital role of youth in national development, stressing the need for them to be well-informed and nurtured in literature from an early age. He noted that fostering reading habits through school libraries would strengthen library culture and ensure sustainable development, bringing broad benefits to society.
After the speech, the Region Ministers accepted cash donations from well-wishers and presented certificates of honor to the donors, followed by commemorative gifts to writer-speaker Myinmu Maung Naing Moe and Region Ministers.
Students from Yankin Education Degree College and Myin Thar Myo Oo Monastic Education School entertained with dance performances, after which writer Myinmu Maung Naing Moe delivered a talk on “The Benefits of Reading.” Following the second part’s dance performances, cash rewards were presented to winners of intellectual competitions, along with 15 million kyats of cash prizes for the performing dance troupes.
