This year, the April 22, marks the end of the Myanmar New Year holidays, transitioning from Myanmar Calendar Year 1386 to 1387. On this day, all government staff have begun returning to their respective offices, starting the new year with renewed spirit, energy, and determination to carry out their duties with full dedication.
Due to the severe Mandalay earthquake on March 28, which caused significant damage to ministerial office buildings and staff housing, offices continued their operations with a minimum number of personnel to ensure continuity. Inspections of the damaged offices and housing were conducted jointly by responsible authorities and experts, and temporary shelter camps were organized by township and neighborhood to accommodate affected staff and their families.
Thanks to these efforts, on the day government offices reopen after the New Year break, all civil servants were able to travel from their temporary shelters or accommodations to their respective ministries and departments using official transport services.
They have resumed work with renewed energy, fresh mindsets, and strong resolve. In Nay Pyi Taw, all ministry offices reported full attendance and normal office operations. At 10:00 AM, the Ministry of Information held its first coordination meeting of the new year at the temporary office structure in front of the Minister’s Office.
The meeting was attended by the Union Minister, Deputy Minister, Permanent Secretary, and other departmental officials. The Union Minister stated that today marks not only the return to office after the long Thingyan holiday but also the restart of operations that had been disrupted due to the earthquake on March 28.
With rescue operations already completed and reconstruction efforts underway, this period also marks the resumption of normal government functions. He added that the Prime Minister has issued instructions to resume operations from today, and that the Ministry of Information has received specific directives regarding news dissemination.
These directives should be systematically followed, and departmental heads must ensure full staff attendance every day. Following this, the Deputy Minister, Permanent Secretary, and officials discussed the current arrangements for staff shelter, the construction of rainproof tents, and commuting logistics. In the afternoon, the Union Minister and officials inspected the temporary shelters, rainproof structures, and sites designated for future construction around the ministry compound.
