Australia – New South Wales flooding

Tropical Cyclone Alfred was nearing the Eastern coast of Australia on March 7, leaving tens of thousands of homes without power and sparking evacuation orders. The destructive cyclone has been swirling in the ocean and approaching Australia for the last week, threatening to strike the populous east coast in an area that rarely gets powerful storms.

The Lismore unit of the New South Wales State Emergency Service warned the public as the floodwaters rose. The Bureau has issued a flood warning for the Wilsons River at Lismore, forecasting the river may reach 10.6m late on Saturday morning with predicted rainfall.
