As London's 2025 Fashion Week kicks off, British Fashion Council (BFC) director Caroline Rush discussed the British capital's place in the fashion world, the use of artificial intelligence and what to expect during the last Fashion Week under her tenure.
Caroline Rush, British Fashion Council (BFC) Director said "And we also know that, of course, within all of our businesses, we're looking at incorporating Gen-AI to help with productivity, research, etc. So, we know that these are tools that are used by businesses. I guess, from the British Fashion Council standpoint, the conversation we're interested in is how do we protect the IP [intellectual property] of designers as part of that Gen-AI process. And so as part of the creative industries in the UK, there's ongoing conversations with the government."
She also highlighted the efforts for sustainability in the industry since 2006 through a program called 'Estethica', and added that many of young designers are thinking about building sustainable businesses through principles of materials, circularity, and really thinking about reducing waste. London Fashion Week will become the first of the ‘big four’ to introduce sustainability requirements for brands that are part of the Newgen incubation scheme.
