






The Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture, U Tin Oo Lwin, attended the 8th coordination meeting held at the Lokanat Hall of the Ministry on Monday. The meeting focused on the restoration and preservation of the Shwezigon Pagoda, which is located in the Bagan Cultural Heritage Area.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the development of a comprehensive Master Plan for the project. In his address, the Union Minister emphasized the need to prepare a systematic Master Plan to ensure the proper restoration and preservation of the Shwezigon Pagoda.
He urged the scholars and relevant departmental officials attending the meeting to collaborate in reviewing and offering suggestions on the draft Master Plan, and to ensure that any additional requirements are incorporated. He also stressed the importance of completing the Master Plan within the set timeframe.
Once the plan is finalized, it will be submitted for approval to the Head of State before proceeding with the next steps of the project. He called on the Myanmar Engineering Council, Myanmar Architect Council, Myanmar Engineering Society, and relevant departments to provide their support in developing the best possible Master Plan for the pagoda.
Following that, the Chief Minister of Mandalay Region Government discussed how the government will work together to ensure that the restoration and preservation efforts for the Shwezigon Pagoda are conducted systematically and sustainably in the long term, emphasizing the Mandalay Region Government’s commitment to contributing effectively to the Master Plan.
Next, the Chairman of the Master Plan Development Committee and the Chairman of the Myanmar Engineering Council reported on the progress of the plan’s development and presented the status of work done by the four teams involved in preparing the comprehensive Master Plan. Attendees of the meeting then discussed what should be included in the Master Plan and presented their proposed steps to complete the draft within the specified timeframe.
Finally, the Union Minister concluded the meeting by urging everyone to work together to ensure that the Master Plan is as comprehensive and effective as possible, with each phase carefully developed and completed on time. The meeting was then concluded.
