A groundbreaking renewable energy project in Walpole, Western Australia, designed to end power outages using water, gravity, and solar power, is complete but stuck awaiting final approval from Western Power.
The micro pumped hydro scheme aims to solve Walpole’s ongoing power supply issues, often leaving the town without electricity for up to 72 hours. After seven years and $8 million in funding, all construction work is finished, but the project cannot be connected to the grid until Western Power completes its commissioning.
The local community, eager for reliable power, is frustrated as the approval process remains in limbo. Western Power has not provided a completion date, citing ongoing discussions with the developer.
