Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said Japan will continue to help in boosting Philippines' security capacity and contributing to the region's peace and security, during his speech at the Philippines House of Representative in Manila on Friday.
Japan and the Philippines said they will start negotiations for defence agreement that would allow the countries to deploy troops on each other's territory. This agreement will create the legal basis for the two countries to send defence personnel to each other's territory for training and other operations.
Japanese PM and Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos also announced the start of reciprocal access negotiations following talks in Manila.
