South Korea on Tuesday hosts senior diplomats from China and Japan for a trilateral meeting. The meeting aims for the resumption of three-way summits between the countries' leaders, which were last held in 2019.
As the threat from nuclear-armed North Korea grows, South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol has pulled Seoul closer to long-standing ally Washington. In August they said a "new chapter" of close three-way security cooperation was beginning after a historic summit at Camp David in the United States.
This meeting will explore potential cooperation between Seoul, Tokyo, and Beijing, and also consider the possibility of resuming long-stalled leaders' summits, the foreign ministry said.
