The Detian-Ban Gioc Waterfall, China's first cross-border tourist attraction, began a 12-month trial operation on Friday.

The waterfall is famous for its spectacular views, straddling the border between Vietnam and China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is the largest waterfall in Asia and the fourth-largest transnational waterfall in the world. On the first day of the trial operation, the cross-border attraction welcomed three groups of 60 tourists.

On November 5, 2015, the Chinese and Vietnamese governments signed a cooperative agreement on protecting and utilizing tourism resources surrounding the Detian-Ban Gioc Waterfall, which aims to promote tourism and cross-border personnel exchange.

According to data released by the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, in the first half of 2023, the number of Chinese tourists going to Vietnam reached 557,000, one fourth of the level in 2019.
