Panda twins in Spain celebrate 2nd birthday

The giant panda twins in Madrid, You You and Jiu Jiu, turned two years old on Thursday, and celebrated with their favorite treat: an iced bamboo cake. These celebrity pandas have had millions of visitors over these past two years. For some local visitors to the zoo, the pandas are very relatable.

Weighing only 150 grams when they were born in 2021, now these two males tip the scales at around 70 kilos each - almost as much as their mother Hua Zui Ba - and will buff up to around 400 kilos by the time they're four. Their diet is 95 percent bamboo plus carrots, apples, frozen ice, and some dietary supplements.

These two little party are symbols of growing ties of friendship between China and Spain. 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and You You and Jiu Jiu's second birthday in good health is yet another cause for celebration.
