Thai lawmakers approved Srettha Thavisin from the Pheu Thai Party as the kingdom's new prime minister on Tuesday. Srettha easily secured a majority across the two houses of parliament to be approved as Thailand's 30th prime minister.
Srettha, the former head of Thai property giant Sansiri, vowed to tackle poverty and inequality and rejected corruption allegations made by an anti-graft whistleblower. The prime ministerial vote came after three months of political twists and turns. Although the Pheu Thai came second in Thailand's May election, it was able to form government after conservative legislators blocked the winning Move Forward party from taking office.
