Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Tuesday said the security and stability of GCC countries are "non-negotiable", calling for increased efforts to ensure safe navigation in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz and to protect energy and civilian infrastructure.

Speaking at the opening of the Shura Council's annual session, the emir said the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and damage to energy facilities in Ras Laffan disrupted a significant portion of the country's exports. He also added that Qatar's revenues fell by 42 percent in the first half of 2026 while public spending declined by 14 percent.
