A group of people from different parts in Japan rallied in Namie Town on Saturday to protest against the government plan to dump nuclear-contaminated water from the Daiichi nuclear power plant into the sea.
The Japanese government intends to start the discharge at the end of August after Japanese Prime Minister's meeting with U.S. and South Korean presidents scheduled for August 18 in the United States, according to local media reports.
The protesters denounced the nuclear plant's operator Tokyo Electric Power Company for its flawed handling of the aftermath, and questioned the company's capacity to properly handle nuclear-contaminated water and ensure rational supervision and transparent information disclosure. The protesters will continue to rally in the hope to avert the discharge plan.
