Iran's Zoroastrians keep the ancient, sacred flame burning at the fire temple in central Yazd city. Zoroastrians stoke the embers to keep the eternal flame alight for centuries, sacred to one of the world's oldest religions, which has been active for more than 1,500 years". Two people are watching the flame "day and night", making it one of only nine in the world that has been kept alive for so long.

The population of the Zoroastrian community in Yazd is decreasing due to an increase in the average marriage age, a decrease in birth rates, and migration. The new generation of Zoroastrians avoids complex rituals and ceremonies, but follow the principle of religion: belief in God, monotheism, and being reasonable.
