Vietnamese Government Chief hosts U.S. Treasury Secretary

U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen visited Vietnam from July 18 to 20 after attending the Group of Twenty finance chiefs meetings in India.

Yellen met with Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính and leaders of some Vietnamese ministries to discuss measures for further promoting economic ties. The U.S. Treasury Secretary affirmed that Vietnam is a close economic partner and plays a key role in the U.S.’ Indo-Pacific strategy.

The United States wishes to further promote economic and trade cooperation with Vietnam and supporting the latter in improving its semiconductor chip and renewable energy production capacity. The U.S. Department of the Treasury will also strengthen cooperation with the Vietnam’s State Bank and Ministry of Finance in modernizing monetary policy. The Prime Minister agreed with the proposal of the US side. Yellen’s visit to Vietnam took place in the context of Vietnam and the US holding various activities to mark the 10th anniversary of their comprehensive partnership.
