Yoon visits US nuclear-capable submarine

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol visited the USS Kentucky, a U.S. nuclear-capable ballistic missile submarine in Busan on Wednesday. The USS Kentucky, a nuclear-powered submarine capable of carrying ballistic missiles equipped with nuclear warheads, arrived in Busan on Tuesday.

Yoon said that the submarine's deployment testifies to Korea and the U'S.' determination to strengthen extended nuclear deterrence. The USS Kentucky's visit is based on an agreement at the US-South Korea summit in April. It is the first call at a South Korean port since 1981 by a US nuclear-powered submarine capable of carrying ballistic missiles equipped with nuclear warheads.
