People from a village on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu celebrated the coronation of King Charles III on Saturday and pledged allegiance to the new king. The ceremony took place in the presence of Acting British High Commissioner to Vanuatu, Michael Watters, where local and British flags were raised.
Watters took part in a kava ceremony and gave a framed photo of King Charles III to the village representatives.Around 5,000 people were said to have taken part in the ceremony. The island's villagers consider King Charles III's father, Prince Philip, as a manifestation of an ancient warrior leader and revere him as a deity.
The worshipping of Prince Philip started in 1974 when the Prince and Queen Elizabeth II visited VanuatuĀ and Philip gave a white pig to the Tanna community.
