Filipinos celebrate Easter with dawn processions

Asia's only majority Catholic country, the Philippines, marked Easter with a dawn procession commemorating the Resurrection of Jesus on Sunday. Hundreds of Catholic faithful gathered early in the morning to take part in the first “Salubong” celebration since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

“Salubong” - or the meeting - is a widespread ritual celebrated in churches all over the country usually involving two adjacent processions— a procession with the Image of the Resurrected Christ meeting with the procession with the Image of the grieving Mother Mary.
