Official and expected candidates for prime minister in Thailand's upcoming election arrived at Bangkok City Hall on Tuesday to register and find out their assigned party number.

On a stage at City Hall, an orb was placed filled with 49 numbered balls, each one to be assigned to each party running in the election. The numbers themselves carry significance for the party and the prime minister candidates, with low single digit figures highly coveted for ease of visual remembering during the election campaign.

The election will see 400 directly elected seats and a further 100 seats decided by proportional representation. The prime minister’s position is chosen in the following weeks, through a combined vote of the lower house and the 250-strong appointed Senate.
