




In preparation for the World Heritage List, 2023 Myanma traditional Thingyan water festival will be filmed and recorded. Thingyan water festival that has been held since Ta-gaung Era to until today has been preserved as the intangible cultural heritage and it is being undertaken to be listed on the world heritage list.
The Deputy Director General of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum said that it needs to submit the video clips to inscribe Thingyan to the World heritage list. During Thingyan, Myanmar people celebrate not only the water festival but also other meritorious deeds such as holding religious festivals, fish releasing ceremony, entertainment programs of Yein troupes at Thingyan water pandals, giving charity feasts and making donations.
On the Myanmar New Year’s Day, the paritta recitations are made by sanghas and monks across the nation. For the World Heritage List, not only Thingyan water festival but also other festivals related to Thingyan are needed to record as the documentary films as well as how the ethnic people hold the festivals according to their tradition and customs. The water festival is held not only in Myanmar but also in Lancang-Mekong countries and that’s why, arrangements are made to list Thingyan water festival on the World Heritage List.
