Shanghai’s 19th Century Textile Factory to Be Renovated

A former textile factory dating back to the 19th century and its supporting buildings will be renovated and converted into an industrial park.

The former site of the British Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ewo Cotton Spinning and Weaving Company located on No. 670 Yangshupu Road was listed as an Outstanding Historical Building in Shanghai. Through restoration, interior decoration and environmental improvement, the continuation of the historical style will be completed, and the old buildings will be restored to glory.

The Yangpu Riverside adjacent to the Yangshupu Water Plant is the former site of the British company with a land area of over 48,000 square meters and a building renovation area of 20,000 square meters. Built in 1896, the factory was the first foreign-own textile mill in Shanghai, but also the front of the Shanghai Labor Movement.
