International Show: Knowledge sharing session on Ziwasoe bird

The 2nd day of the 5th Myanmar International Livestock, Fishery and Agriculture Show took place at the Myanmar Convention Center in Yangon. Over 60 investment companies have participated in the show displaying their products, and livestock, fishery and agricultural experts also held knowledge sharing sessions.

Dr. Tint Swe, Researcher/Consultant, Ziwasoe Bird Breeding Business, said " I have been studying about Ziwasoe (grey-rumped swiftlet) birds for over 10 years not only in Myanmar but also in foreign countries. Ziwasoe bird nest businesses only can operate in their habitat areas. Ziwasoe birds only can be found in South East Asia countries and Ziwasoe bird nest production businesses are successfully operating in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia and Viet Nam. That’s why I’m encouraging and sharing knowledge about Ziwasoe birds to earn more income."

During the knowledge sharing session about Ziwasoe birds, the researcher shared knowledge about producing bird nest using modern techniques, the nature of Ziwasoe birds and building a place for the bird to build nest and collecting nest process.

Ziwasoe birds take 4 months to build nest, lay egg and hatch. They build the nests with their salivary gland and people can collect the abandoned nests after the hatching season. People also can give them a place to build nest and hatch and collect their nests after hatching season to produce bird nest products.
