





Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Electric Power U Thaung Han and Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Myo Thein Kyaw visited Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Saint Petersburg of Russia on 17th November.
Officials explained the use of Atomic Energy in a peaceful purpose, cooperation with foreign countries, using nuclear technology in research works and pharmaceutical industry, controlling Atomic Stations in foreign countries, fulfilling the electricity demand, gaining public trust on using nuclear power, and contribution to social life with the use of nuclear power as well as environmental safety matters.
The Union Ministers also discussed the sectors to be implemented with the bilateral cooperation. They later viewed round the factory. Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant is situated 80 kilometer southwest of Saint Petersburg, and it has 1,000 MW capacity that fulfills 50% consumption of the city.
The factory has been operating for 49 years without any harm to natural environment, and it has extended two 1,200 MW capacities. Union Minister U Thaung Han and party later visited Leningrad Power Machines Company, and viewed the production process of generators. The company mainly produces turbines used in hydropower and solar powered plants.
The company started its operation in 1942, and distributing the generators to 38 countries. It is the fourth largest company in the world and 70% of the generators used in the hydropower plants in Russia have been produced by Power Machines. Likewise, Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Kyaw and party visited Konstantinovsky Palace and observed the booths displayed there.
