Livestock & Aquaculture research: research works on beekeeping using modern techniques

Department of Livestock and Aquaculture Research under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation is conducting research works to develop the livestock and fish sectors, participant of the private sector in the modern technique development research activity in the livestock and fisheries and doing research analysis on beekeeping using modern techniques. 

In cooperation with related departments under the other ministries and the research projects of private sectors, Department of Livestock and Aquaculture Research is being carried out to analyze the 12 research projects of terrestrial animals and 24 research projects of aquatic animals. 

Dr. Saw Borm, Director, Dept. of Livestock & Aquaculture Research said "The Livestock and Aquaculture research centre is the first centre of Myanmar. Since, it is a national level research centre and it will be carried out in accordance with 8 work processes. And we will distribute the obtain research techniques to the farm breeders."

The local species of bees can found in Myanmar such as the carpenter bee, Asian honey bees and giant bees species and also the 7 species of European bees can found in surveys.  

Kyaw Si Thu, Staff Officer, Dept. of Livestock & Aquaculture Research said "We were collected the bee hives in the NayPyiTaw council area and Pyawbwe township of Mandalay region. The powerful bee hives were growing in 21 days. After 21 days, we tested and conducted research analysis on the collected 50 male bees and 50 workers bees. We use to cut wings of bees to divide the bee species, scanning the wings and identify their spicies with IdentiFly draw wing software. And we have planned to continue to be breed using artificial insemination technique. "

By researching and classifying the bee species, collection rate of nectar, pollination rate and the species of bees can be identified, and the breeders will be able to obtain bee species according to their commercial breeding businesses.
