In order to know the power units used by the electricity consumers in a timely manner, the Ministry of Electric Power has been implementing the AMI system, which combines with the meter equipments which can read the meter bill with the online system and information management systems.
AMI system has already been carried out in 8 townships within the Nay Pyi Taw Union territory, 14 townships in Yangon Region and 3 townships in Mandalay Region.
Managing Director, Electric Power Generation Enterprise, Ye Toe Thwin, said " In the past, HHU system was used to read the meter bill, so there were human errors in meter reading processes, which caused losses for the department and electricity consumers, so the AMI installation was being carried out to cover such errors. The AMI system was implemented in Dawbon township, Yangon Region since 2017. Currently, the AMI system has been installed in around 20 townships in Yangon Region and also in the Nay Pyi Taw council area and Mandalay."

By using the AMI system, illegal electricity consumers can be caught and power outages areas can be easily known form the control center. The AMI system can also be used by the control center to cut off the electric power to those who do not pay the electricity bill, as well as make the billing system, ledger entries system easier with the AMI system, in addition it will be accurately known the meter unit consumed per month."
Efforts are being made to carry out the AMI system for the rest of the townships in regions and states throughout the country, depending on the allotted budget each of the fiscal year.
