The Information Team of the State Administration Council on 9th November released a statement on relaxing the penalty on former Union Election Commission (UEC) Chairman U Hla Thein and former UEC member U Myint Naing in regard with the 2022 election fraud.
The statement said that the State Administration Council is constantly looking forwards to ensuring peace, stability and tranquility of the State after assuming the state’s responsibilities. With the aim for more participating in the future work programs of the state, the Government is specially lenient and relaxing as much as possible for those are given penalties and punishments and for those are evading due to anxiety except for those who have committed crimes with various reasons.
Among those who have been sentenced to three years in prison respectively under Section 130 (a) of the Penal Code as they were appointed by the winning party for 2020 General Election and did voting frauds in the election, the former UEC Chairman U Hla Thein and former UEC member U Myint Naing also included.
Although the Tatmadaw submitted to the former President U Win Myint regarding the request to resolve the statement regarding the electoral fraud in the 2020 general election, the former President had influenced the Commission's activities beyond his political authority and refused to review the ballots.
The public have already known about their own statements. Those perpetrators admitted to the crimes submitted a petition to the government to ease their remaining sentences due to their old ages and health condition in serving their sentences by confessing to the crimes they committed.
In order to create humanitarian grounds to the former UEC Chairman U Hla Thein and former UEC member U Myint Naing, it is announced that the Government has relaxed their remaining punishments to be served and the various punishments being served on 25th October 2022.
