Significant Day: Tazaungmon full moon day celebrated in Yangon

Organzied by Shwedagon Pagoda Treasurer’s Board of Trustees,  Tazaungmon full moon or Samannaphala day was held at the designated places on the Shwedagon pagoda platform on Moday.

Members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees, the staffs and religious associations offered alms food, flowers, water, fruits and incense to the pagoda and they also conveyed Kathina gloden lotus robe to offer to the Buddha images at the pagoda.

They then offered the gloden lotus robes to the Buddha images at the four corners of the prayer halls and Padamyar Myet Shin Buddha Image on the upper terrace.

It was followed by religious sermons recitation and merit sharing ceremony was held and the congregation received the Nine Precepts from PaliThekatho Nyaungdon monastery Presiding Sayadaw and donated offertories to the Sayadaws. After the merits sharing ceremony, members of the Pagoda Board of Trustees offered day meal to Ovadasariya Sayadaws.

In the evening, the lights were offered to the pagoda. Similarly, the 38th non-stale golden lotus robe offering of BotahtaungKyaikDeatt Buddha’s Hair Relic Pagoda and the consecration ceremony of Kaba Aye pagoda and parrita recitation were held at the pagodas, respectively.

Likewise, the full moon day of Tazaungmon festivals were held at the pagodas and stupas in Yangon and Samannaphala sutta were recited. Pagodas across the country were also crowded with Buddhist devotees and pilgrims and MathoThingan or non-stale robe offerings were also held. 

As part of celebrations, people offer alms, lights, joss sticks, flowers and fruits to the pagodas. On the day, streets are also packed with alms offering for monks and Satuditha or charity feasts serving for people as part of merit-makings. The colorful lights were also illuminated at offices, wards, roads, houses and People’s Square and parks in Yangon.
