






Hindu traditional lighting festival, Deepawali, was organized at Shree Maha LakshmiTemple in Yangon on Sunday. Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the celebration, and offered flowers, water and lights to the Buddha image in the temple.
It was followed by the Hindu traditional ritual performance. The Prime Minister later lit the oil lamp in commemoration of Deepawali, together with the Indian Ambassador and wife, Russian Ambassador and the Chairman of the organizing committee.
In his speech, the Prime Minister said the Section-362 of the Constitution stated that “The Union also recognizes Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Animism as the religions existing in the Union at the day of the coming into operation of this Constitution”. So also, Section-363 stated that “The Union may assist and protect the religions it recognizes to its utmost”.
He added that the government is providing assistance for organizing the religious festival of every recognized religion. He also highlighted the similarities of lovely customs between Deepawali Festival and the Thadingyut and Tazaungdaing Lighting Festivals of Buddhist people.
He wished for the peace and prosperity of the country through the mutual relations among the different religions, and serving the respective duties in nation building endeavours. It was followed by the greetings of the Indian and Russian Ambassadors, and the official of the organizing committee. The Prime Minister and party later enjoyed the Hindu traditional cultural performances.
